"Statehood Bid for Jammu and Kashmir Gains Momentum with L-G’s Endorsement: 'A New Chapter in Healing'"

In a significant political development, the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Jammu and Kashmir has given his approval to a resolution seeking statehood for the region, marking what many are calling a crucial step towards restoring the region's autonomy. The resolution, backed by various political parties and civil society groups, aims to reverse the 2019 decision that downgraded Jammu and Kashmir to a Union Territory after the abrogation of Article 370.

The L-G, in a statement, described the approval as the "beginning of a healing process" for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have faced prolonged political and social uncertainty. He emphasized that restoring statehood would help rebuild trust between the central government and the local population, fostering a more inclusive and participatory governance model.

Local leaders welcomed the decision, calling it a "positive step" towards addressing the longstanding grievances of the people. However, they stressed that full statehood must be followed by greater political autonomy and a restoration of democratic processes, including assembly elections.

While the resolution does not guarantee immediate implementation, the L-G’s approval is seen as a significant move towards reconciliation and development in the region.
